5 Sept 2019 (TheAge) – Painful path out of crisis – Boris Johnson’s grim expression reflects gravity of Tory rebellion

London: Pain and anger were obvious on Boris Johnson’s face after Parliament inflicted humiliation on him on Tuesday. His return to the House of Commons overnight, Australian time, threatened to be just as bad. But this may be necessary pain, the crisis that sets the stage for a dramatic triumph (on Johnson’s terms) next month. In chronological order, Johnson lost his parliamentary majority, control of his Brexit strategy, his first parliamentary vote as PM, and was then forced to sack the grandson of his political idol. But he kept control of the country, for now, with an opposition apparently determined to make him stew in place until they can lock down yet another Brexit extension.’
