2 July 2018 (AFR) – China contagion risk seen as low despite sell-off

‘Chinese markets are in flux, rekindling worries about the global sell-off they triggered in 2015-16 and leading strategists to warn that further losses will increase the risk of contagion spreading through regional equity markets in the absence of ongoing and largely effective intervention by the “national team”. Sharp drops last week pushed two key Shanghai stock indices – the Shanghai Shenzhen CSI 300 and the Shanghai Composite – into bear markets from their January peaks; Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index is now down 13 per cent from its January high.’
