‘Outsized gains in Sydney and Melbourne are a thing of the past for house prices, as economists agree the boom is over, but dispute the direction of the housing market in 2018. Australia’s housing market has risen strongly since 2013, with capital cities’ prices rising about 22 per cent over five years. Prices in Sydney and Melbourne rose 35 per cent and 30 per cent respectively during that period.
