6 Apr 2017 (AFR) – APRA drops housing capital bombshell

‘Australia’s banks could be forced to raise billions of dollars more capital after the prudential regulator warned they may have concentrated too much of their lending in increasingly risky and highly priced housing. Wayne Byres, the chair of the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority, said the watchdog needed to resolve the way the banks’ allocate capital to home loans, as he announced a strategic review into property lending.’
