9 Feb 2017 (AFR) – Online piranhas bit into retail elephant – Small online retailers ‘in aggregate are quite a force’

‘The piranhas are bringing down the elephants. Hundreds of small online retailers now have a critical mass in aggregate that is undermining the economics of well-known brand names that have been operating for decades. They’re partially responsible for the string of collapses over the past few months that has claimed Herringbone, Rhodes & Beckett, Marcs, David Lawrence, Pumpkin Patch, Payless Shoes and Howards Storage World.
