7 Feb 2017 (TheAge) – ABS says retail sales fall 0.1 per cent to $25.6 billion in December

‘Australians spent more than $25.6 billion in December, but sales for the month dipped 0.1 per cent, confounding hopes for a bumper Christmas sales. But CommSec senior economist Savanth Sebastian said a 0.9 per cent rise in quarterly sales volumes was a “pretty solid result overall” and suggested Australians had done their shopping early rather than hitting the shops just before Christmas.’
