1 Feb 2017 (AFR) – If January is any guide, shares are in for a tough year

It got off to a great start, and for a time it all looked so promising. But in the end the month of January wasn’t a good one for investors in the sharemarket.  <snipped…>

‘But after the initial hype it seems there’s one major reason to worry that Wall Street’s rally may not be sustained, and ironically it’s the same reason stocks rallied in the first place – President Donald Trump. Sacking the acting attorney general, Sally Yates, who refused to enforce the legal order of Trump’s moves to block refugees and temporarily ban entry into the US for citizens from some majority-Muslim nations, has made some investors nervous about just what else he will do.’
