12 Dec 2016 (TheAge) – Speedy rate hikes protect bank margins

‘The latest round of interest rate hikes from banks are taking effect about twice as quickly as the time it took lenders to cut home loan rates four months ago, another way in which lenders are seeking to protect their profit margins.  A growing number of major and second-tier banks have in the past week raised variable interest rates on new and existing loans. The changes mostly affect property investor borrowers, a less politically sensitive customer group than owner-occupiers.’
