22 Nov 2016 (AFR) – Even the US could end up an emerging market in ugly new world

‘Market interpretation of the election result can be expressed in three letters repeated several times: USA! USA! USA! Whatever the outcome for the US, it will be far worse for the rest of the world, and for emerging markets in particular. Outside financial crises, the violence of the move towards the US and out of everyone else was unprecedented. The S&P 500 has beaten the MSCI EAFE, the benchmark of the developed world outside the US, to the greatest extent since it was created. Its outperformance of MSCI’s emerging markets index has been more than 10 percentage points in barely a week.’
