18 Nov 2016 (AFR) – ‘Trumpflation’ tremors spook investors

‘Warnings from two leading US bond fund managers that the US economy could be headed for a period of “Trumpflation” – rising inflation and interest rates but tepid growth – brought the post-election US sharemarket rally to an abrupt halt on Wednesday night. The warnings come amid growing doubts that US President-elect Donald Trump’s plans for massive tax cuts and infrastructure spending – which will swell US budget deficits by an estimated $US6 trillion ($8 trillion) over the coming decade – will be enough to spur US economic growth.’
