12 Nov 2016 (AFR) – Trump changes the game for investors

‘This week we’ve had a glimpse of what it might mean to invest in a world where governments, rather than central banks, are the driving force in global financial markets. It was this theme that analysts underestimated when they almost universally forecast sharemarkets to plunge should Hillary Clinton lose this week’s vote. Instead the the ASX 200 had its biggest rally in five years on Thursday and the Dow Jones hit a record high later that night. That it took the election of a figure like Donald Trump to leader of the free world to act as this agent of market regime change is further evidence of how limited the impact of extraordinary monetary policies since the GFC have been.’
