4 Nov 2016 (AFR) – Get ready for a rally once US election over – Once the votes have been cast, strap yourself in for a wild ride

‘Now that it’s getting very close to when American voters finally have to decide between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, the old joke about the nine most terrifying words you will ever hear – “I’m from the government and I’m here to help” – isn’t so funny. One of them will end up in the White House running the show and investors are getting very worried it might be Trump. On Thursday night the S&P 500 fell for an eighth consecutive session, its longest losing stretch since October 2008. At the same time the Chicago Board Options Exchange Volatility Index gained in each of those eight sessions, matching its longest streak ever, and signalling that investors are desperate to protect themselves from more falls in the sharemarket.’
