‘Any kind of surprise outcome in the late stages of the United States presidential race could prolong an already drawn-out capital spending recession in the United States. On the weekend, the US Federal Bureau of Investigation’s shock decision to scrutinise previously undetected emails linked to its lapsed investigation of Hillary Clinton threw the campaign into upheaval and cast doubt on a comfortable Democratic win.’
