12 Oct 2016 (AFR) – Odd couple equities and bonds split up – Fiscal reform talk buoys equities but spooks bond markets

‘A brutal sell-off in bonds due to growing talk of fiscal reform overtaking monetary policy has yet to unsettle equity markets, but fund managers say the sanguine conditions may be short lived. Bonds and equities had been moving in tandem until last week on expectations and hopes of the continuation of central bank easing. However, over the past six days the 10-year government bond yield has surged from 1.908 per cent last Monday to 2.246 per cent, while the S&P/ASX 200 Index has inched higher.’
