4 Oct 2016 (AFR) – China’s crunch – The brutal impact of China’s credit crunch

‘It was the most peculiar of demonstrations. On a Saturday afternoon in Shanghai, protesters angry about the collapse of hundreds of investment schemes stood largely silent in the city’s main square. The police, always wary about crowds assembling, had allowed around 3000 people to gather, but the orders were “no slogans and no posters”. Those who dared to yell “give us back our life savings” were quickly removed – most were put on buses, driven to the other side of town and then released.’
