19 Mar 2016 (AFR) – Emerging markets back from the brink

‘It was a case of one step forward and two steps back for emerging market enthusiasts this week, as political tensions in Brazil and South Africa threatened to overshadow the good news coming from the United States central bank. In the past six weeks there has been a surge of inflows into emerging markets, with investors spending billions of dollars snapping up their shares and bonds, amid growing optimism that China will avoid a hard landing and a recovery in commodity prices. This improved sentiment is reflected in the iShares MSCI Emerging Markets exchange-traded fund, which has jumped by more than 10 per cent in the past four weeks.’
