26 Aug 2015 (AFR) – Volatility appears to have come early this year – surprises seasoned ASX traders

[COMMENT: This is a very interesting story, with some insight to seasonal market moves, and the northern hemisphere summer. It does pay to be aware of these consistencies from year to year. It is somewhat related to the adage ‘Sell in May and go away’.]

‘September and October have the reputation as historically lousy months for shares, not August. In the past, August has been the month where the carefree mood is still in full swing. It’s the peak summer holiday time in the northern hemisphere and junior traders normally resort to playing cat-and-mouse games as volumes dwindle in the absence of some of the bigger players.’
